What operating options does the Rheem ProTerra have?

There are different operating options available for Rheem water heaters.  These are Energy Saver, High Demand, Heat Pump, Electric Only, and Vacation modes. The temperature and amount of power being used depend on what operating option the water heater is currently on.

  • Heat Pump Mode: This mode will heat with Heat Pump operation. It will not use electric heat during normal heating and demand cycles.  This mode has a low recovery but minimizes power consumption.
  • Energy Saver Mode: This mode will provide functional operation. Consequently, the water heater performance meets Energy Star’s requirements.  FHR (First Hour Rating) – exceeding the minimum of 51 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) and a minimum UEF (Uniform Energy Factor) of 2.0.  As a result, the use of electric heat is minimized while the compressor operation is maximized.
  • High Demand Mode: This mode provides the highest recovery while still providing good energy savings.  The water heater will operate both the heat pump and electric heat simultaneously.
  • Electric Only Mode: This mode will heat with the electric-resistance elements.  It should be used during filter and condensate drain maintenance periods.  This mode will result in maximum power consumption.
  • Vacation Mode: When you will be away from your home for an extended period of time, use vacation mode. This mode will allow a span setting between 1 and 28 days. It can also be set indefinitely with the “Hold” setting.  In this mode, the tank temperature will remain at 65°F (18°C).
